By utilizing natural grazing practices, Katadhin Sheep effectively clear overgrown vegetation without the need for harmful chemicals, noisy machinery, or fossil fuels. Their grazing promotes soil health by naturally fertilizing the land with nutrient-rich manure, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers. Additionally, sheep help control invasive plant species, encouraging the growth of native flora and enhancing biodiversity. This sustainable approach not only minimizes your ecological footprint but also creates a quieter, greener, and healthier environment for your property and the surrounding ecosystem.
Black Hammock Farm's Rent-A-Herd program offers an eco-friendly land management solution utilizing Katahdin sheep to control overgrown vegetation and naturally fertilize the soil. This service caters to both residential and commercial clients, emphasizing environmental sustainability and effective land maintenance.

We begin every project with a comprehensive evaluation of your property & specific needs. Our approach considers your terrain, existing fences or barriers, and the types of vegetation present.

We will assess your area and prepare the clearing spot for the sheep, which may involve checking for toxic folage and securing existing fencing or installing temporary barriers to safely contain and protect the Sheep.

The sheep will get to work as soon as they arrive! With their ability to navigate any terrain effortlessly, they’ll tackle weeds first, even standing on their hind legs to reach those hard-to-access areas.

After the majority of vegetation is cleared, we will remove sheep and temporary fencing. If a finer tune up is what you carave, we can manually cut, trim or pull out any additional vegetation .
Real answers about sheep-based land clearing in Central Florida.
Most Central Florida parcels take three to seven days per acre, depending on vegetation density, plant species, and seasonal growth stage. A heavily overgrown lot with Brazilian pepper, blackberry, and brush takes longer than a pasture that simply needs the seedhead growth knocked back. We assess the parcel before quoting and stage the flock to graze in rotation — concentrated impact, then move on to the next zone.

Sheep selectively graze leaves, stems, seedheads, and tender growth — they take vegetation down to several inches above the soil, which is exactly what land managers want for invasive control. They don't strip the root system, so the soil structure stays intact, but they remove enough biomass that woody plants are stressed and grasses are reset. Repeat visits during a growing season can functionally exhaust invasive populations.

We use portable electric netting — lightweight, temporary fencing that defines the grazing zone for the duration of the project. Setup takes a few hours; the netting is moved as the flock progresses through the parcel. For larger commercial and municipal projects, we adjust zone size to match the target clearance rate. Permanent fencing is never required and the parcel is left as we found it.

Sheep and goats have different grazing behaviors that suit different jobs. Goats prefer woody brush and will climb structures, jump fencing, and strip bark from trees. Sheep prefer grasses and broadleaf weeds, stay grounded, and behave calmly in residential and commercial settings. For most Central Florida parcels — yards, pasture, retention areas, roadside ROW — sheep produce better outcomes with fewer side effects. We chose sheep deliberately, not by default.

For Florida's mix of grasses, broadleaf invasives, and pasture overgrowth, sheep are equally effective and often better. Goats outperform sheep on dense woody brush like multiflora rose or heavy shrub thickets, which are less common in Central Florida. Sheep outperform goats on the vegetation Florida properties typically have — Bahia and Bermuda overgrowth, dollarweed, Spanish needle, and broadleaf weeds. Match the animal to the job, not the trend.

Lambscaping is typically priced per acre or per project, depending on access, density, and timeline. Industry data shows targeted grazing services save property owners $1,600 to $3,000 per acre compared to mechanical clearing — and that doesn't account for the avoided costs of herbicide application, soil restoration, or hauling debris. We provide a fixed quote after assessing the parcel; no surprise charges, no fuel surcharges.

The flock arrives by livestock trailer, which needs a vehicle path wide enough for a standard truck and gooseneck — typically anywhere a delivery truck could reach. Water access is required (we'll supply portable troughs if your parcel doesn't have spigot access). No electrical hookup is needed — the netting runs on a small solar charger. We'll walk the site with you before scheduling to confirm logistics.

Residential and small commercial projects typically book two to six weeks out. Larger commercial and municipal projects book four to twelve weeks out, depending on flock availability, parcel size, and seasonal demand. Spring and fall are our peak seasons; summer slots open up earlier. Reach out as soon as you know you want a quote — assessment and scheduling are separate steps, so early contact gives you the most flexibility.

Lambscaping works on residential lots (overgrown yards, easements), commercial parcels (HOA common areas, vacant land, light-industrial buffers), municipal land (parks, retention ponds, roadside right-of-way), and agricultural land (pasture restoration, invasive control, fence-line management). It's not a fit for parcels under a quarter acre, sites without trailer access, or jobs where the goal is total bare soil rather than vegetation management.

We Lambscape across Central Florida — primarily Seminole, Orange, Volusia, and Lake counties. We've taken larger commercial and municipal jobs as far as Brevard and Polk counties when project scope justifies the travel. For sites outside our regular radius, we provide a custom transport quote. If you're not sure whether your location qualifies, reach out — we'll let you know within a day.
